Upcoming Parent/Carers Training - October 2019

Our scheduled training programme for this year continues with a number of workshops for parents/carers and extended families throughout Perth & Kinross.

So far since April 2019, we have delivered 28 sessions for parents/carers and families with 220 delegates all attending with fantastic evaluations and feedback from the sessions.

What do we have upcoming in October?

PERTH

interACTION: Autism - what is it and what can we do to help? (Entry Level) *

Date: 21 October and 22 October Time: 6.00-8.30pm Place: Perth Autism Support

Please note both sessions should be attended

This is an introductory level course that is suitable for parent/carers who want to find out information about autism spectrum conditions. The course is designed to provide information, support and strategies for parents/carers of autistic individuals, those who are going through the diagnosis process or those with a related social communication difficulty.

This course is also popular with parents/carers who need a refresher in their approach recognising that parenting a child at different stages of their lives brings different challenges and that we need to adapt and change our approach to suit this. We also have a number of parents attend who may not have had the opportunity directly after their young person's diagnosis but who now feel ready to do some thinking about approaches and support for their son/daughter.

Thinking About Inflexible Thinking (Advanced Level) ***

Date: 29 October Time: 10.00am-2.00pm Place: Perth Autism Support

Some autistic individuals can have a particularly fixed thinking style. This can cause barriers in accepting change, a strong sense of injustice, understanding why things happen and accepting people's differing point of view. This can sometimes result in an explosion of frustration! This training workshops helps parents/carers look at different ways to support an individual who has inflexible thinking and how to introduce these strategies in a home setting. We will look at some of the underlying reasons for this style of thinking and then explore different ways to expand it.

Our training is split in to three levels:

* Entry Level: this is a good place to start for parents which can give a good overall understanding of autism and what can help in terms of approaches and support

** Intermediate Level: this training builds on the basic knowledge of autism and applies it to different contexts or will look at one area of support in more detail. There is a wide range of intermediate courses and we would suggest choosing the relevant topics at the right time

*** Advanced Level: this training requires a good working knowledge of autism to get the most out of the training sessions or its main focus is on a very specialised area

WHILST OUR TRAINING IS ALL FREE FOR REGISTERED PARENTS TO ATTEND, PLEASE ENSURE YOU READ OUR CANCELLATION POLICY ON EACH EVENTBRITE EVENT.
